My Life in Musiccast

Community Group: Older Adults and High School Students

Project Description: Workshop Sessions and Bespoke Performances

A unique reminiscence project working with sheltered housing residents and high school students. This inter-generational collaboration encouraged service users to extend their social network and support them in creating music based performance pieces.

Using information and story-gathering to connect with residents and inspire the performance pieces, the sharing of memories was the basis for the final performances. Poems, music and scripted pieces were performed in Renfrewshire throughout October 2015, as participants and audiences alike celebrate  past experiences and positive futures.

“It was wonderful to be part of such a meaningful evening for cast and audience too. We were all moved and uplifted by the songs and stories shared on the night. The expressions on the faces in the crowd as they joined in showed their personal connections to the memories…” Nancy, Volunteer, My Life/My Music

“A pleasure to be part of. The enthusiasm of all involved (workers, residents and volunteers) was infectious and the few glances I managed at the audience showed how they were all (old and young) captivated by the songs and stories. I never cease to be amazed at Karen’s ability to produce wonderful theatre from snippets of information and memories. Bring on the next project!” David Sturgeon, My Life/My Music

This project can also be adapted for one off performance specially tailored to fit your community. For more information or to book contact us.
